Anyone know of a photographer in SOCAL that takes Anne Geddes style pics and will let me have the copyrights?

April 292010

I am looking for a baby photographer who takes beautiful baby pictures just like Anne Geddes and will let me have the digital files. I’ll drive anywhere in SoCal, but it would be nice if the photographer is located in the inland empire and uses photoshop.
I AM JUST LOOKING FOR SOMEONE THAT WILL SELL ME DIGITAL IMAGES TOO.

Any real photographer who is a professional will negotiate a contract with you and MAYBE sell you the digital files. That DOES NOT INCLUDE THE COPYRIGHT. The copyright always belongs to the artist (photographers included). Someone willing to sell you the rights, if they are any good, is going to charge a lot of money for that. This is something you should not expect to be able to do unless you really have a lot of money.

You are more likely going to be able to negotiate for certain broad but limited rights to using the images, which is not the same as owning the copyright. So think about what you really want to do, get a good contract written and discuss things thoroughly with whomever you find. If you get turned down, be willing to renegotiate the limitations to more closely match your needs and not remove the creator’s rights.

good luck!

What clothing makes a great family portrait?

April 292010

My family and i are gonna have a picture taken at our church, what clothing is nice for the family?

Solid colors. Colors also that are more dark, or more light and less mid-tone. Imagine what It would look like if you were to make a black and white copy of the photo. would you want everyone to look gray and washed out? Dark darks and light lights are good because when in black and white it makes the contrast appear sharp and less gray. make sense?
…and….NO JEANS IN CHURCH! I was raised not to do that.

Which celebrity’s face is most suitable for portraiture?

April 292010

I am keen on making a portrait of a celebrity. Please suggest some names whose faces are most suitable for black and white charcoal portraits on paper.

marilyn monroe

Great eyebrows, good bone structure, and small button nose (hard to mess up…well… it depends on your skills, ha)
But really, I love portraitures and she is one of my favorites to draw. Things to look for are classic beauties.. such as cindy crawford. It’s important (like stated above) that she has great eyebrows, angular bone structure and tight skin.

How can I get into the fashion photography business?

April 292010

I am new to photography and want to work in fashion. Like a magazine or clothes company. I need some guidance.

here is my site www.dylanwhite.net

Study the work of other fashion photographers and experiment with lighting to get the same kind of results.
You could work with aspiring fashion models for no fees either way and offer to help build their portfolio. They wouldn’t have to pay you anything whether they like the photos or not.

Then when you get more competent you can experiment with lighting, locations etc. Build your portfolio of work, get it critiqued (and don’t just ask people who will be polite). Be ruthless and only put the very best prints in it. The same goes for your website.

When you feel you are competent enough advertise yourself AS a fashion photographer and approach every agency and magazine. Minimise their risk. (To begin with) If they don’t like what you’ve done they owe nothing

How close to the wedding are we suposed to have the bridal shower or wedding shower?

April 292010

Posted in wedding | 6 Comments »

My wedding is in early August and I want to have my bridal shower at the end of April. Is that too soon. When should i have it? Are bridal showers and wedding showers the same thing? I dont know how these things work, help me out a little. Its my first time.Is there a rule to these things?

A shower is not organized or planned or scheduled by the Bride.

So, let’s start take a giant step backwards and do it the right way.

Neither the Bride nor the Bride’s Mother nor the Groom’s Mother nor any sisters or sister-in-laws should host (plan, organize or pay for) a shower. It is a form of solicitation and inappropriate. Many people use the terms wedding and bridal shower interchangeably but usually a bridal shower applies to items or gifts "for the Bride" and a wedding shower applies to items or gifts "for the Bride and Groom."

A shower is usually hosted by the Maid or Matron of Honor UNLESS she is an immediate member of the family. If the Maid of Honor is the Bride’s sister then one of the bridesmaids should host the shower (with the other bridal party members helping her).

A shower is supposed to be an intimate gathering of the Bride and Groom’s co-workers, family members and/or close friends. It is NOT a gift unwrapping marathon for 99 people at the local Holiday Inn for six hours that includes lots of cocktails and a U-Haul truck to take away the gifts.

The shower should take place at least 30 DAYS before the wedding date because there are so many things to do in that last 30 day time period.

Printed invitations should be mailed out at least three weeks in advance of the party with a RSVP (at least seven days before the party) so the hostess know how many people are attending. The party invitation can include the location (s) of the Bride and Groom’s wedding registry (this is the only place it is appropriate).

A shower can have a theme, here’s a few examples: kitchen and bath, time of day, lingerie, and honeymoon.

A shower can take place at someone’s home on a Monday night at 7PM or at the local pizza place on a Sunday afternoon at 1PM.

And the food can be as simple as vegetables and dip or as elaborate as a three course tea party followed by a decorated sheet cake.

The decorations can be as simple as a bouquet of the Bride’s favorite flowers to yards and yards of white tulle, paper wedding bells, and balloons.

Traditionally, the shower is a SURPRISE for the Bride UNLESS she lives far, far away and then a different set of rules applies.

Would you rather have traditional or trendy Senior Portraits?

April 292010

Calling all high schoolers!!! What type of Senior Portraits appeal to you? Do you like the traditional pearls ‘n black drape and suit ‘n tie? Or do you like pics with more of an edge?

Go with the trendy.

My granddaughters have and I love it.

I graduated in 1953 and we all looked the same – with the same drape with a rhinestone in the middle that everyone had for years.

I do like the suit and tie but – what do I know – things have changed – Yeah – go trendy all the way.

Good question.
DeeJay.

That is the camera if it makes any difference!

hey, i dnt believe u hav 2 be the worlds best photographer to take perfect pictures. However, i’ll give u some basic tips(its not a list that’ll drag on) :
1) make sure the light source is not directly at your object, best if it is behind it lights up the object and no shadows appear on the face
2) zoom only if u need detail and if its at a particular object but dnt forget to leave a bit of surrounding atmosphere to create a realistic feel
3) if ur taking large images make sure not to tilt the camera it cuts the image into proportions so some bits look larger than another
4) be inspired and think creative dnt take pictures because ur bored or hav nothing to do only take them when ur sure what ur looking for
5) finally dnt buy the most high tech and additionally geared stuff because u’ll hav no clue how to operate it and u’ll be throwing away a chunk of cash which could hav bought u a dozen decent cameras. However if ur planning to become a professional, do buy them. but u get different results with different cameras.
hope this helped and u can finally snap away to ur hearts content!!
good luck and dare to dream ;-)
ps. errr maybe the list did drag on a little oops!!

How much money does a Certified Photographer make?

April 292010

I am curious. I am interested in Photography. I don’t have alot of money for schooling. How much would a Certified Photographer earn in compared to a Photographer with Bachelors degree?

There is no such thing as a certified photographer that I know off. I know the ppa does have some kind of membership level certification just for them. You don’t have to go to school for photography. You could work with an experienced photographer and learn the trade. It is as important to learn the business and law of the profession as it is to know the art. Many community colleges have great associate programs in photography. That would still be a good start to learn the craft. Look into grants and other sources to fund your education. This is not an easy industry a degree is always good to have. http://www.ppa.com
