How should I edit a family portrait?

June 252010

Should I leave the pictures the way they are orginally or are there any little tricks to making pictures look nicer?
I currently have photoshop.

I like to burn in around the edges so that they eye is contained in the area of the image.

How often do you get your family portrait taken?

June 212010

Also, how often do you get your children’s portraits done.
We went to a studio only once when my daughter was 14 months old. Other than that, my sister takes photos of our family at the park or something…but I like it.

we’ve never had one done preffesionally but i take tons of pics of our family all the time so we are not lacking in pictures worthy of being hung on our walls. I much rather take pictures of my children being their natural selves… i hate the look of posed pictures

Song: Family Portrait – Pink

Lyrics:

Uh, uh, some deep shit, uh, uh

Momma please stop cryin, I can’t stand the sound
Your pain is painful and its tearin’ me down
I hear glasses breakin as I sit up in my bed
I told dad you didn’t mean those nasty things you
said

You fight about money, bout me and my brother
And this I come home to, this is my shelter
It ain’t easy growin up in World War III
Never knowin what love could be, you’ll see
I don’t want love to destroy me like it has done
my family

Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, Mommy I’ll do anything
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, Daddy please don’t
leave

Daddy please stop yellin, I can’t stand the sound

Make mama stop cryin, cuz I need you around
My mama she loves you, no matter what she says
its true
I know that she hurts you, but remember I love
you, too

I ran away today, ran from the noise, ran away
Don’t wanna go back to that place, but don’t have
no choice, no way
It ain’t easy growin up in World War III
Never knowin what love could be, well I’ve seen
I don’t want love to destroy me like it did my
family

Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, Mommy I’ll do anything
Can we work it out? Can we be a family?
I promise I’ll be better, Daddy please don’t
leave

In our family portrait, we look pretty happy
Let’s play pretend, let’s act like it comes
naturally
I don’t wanna have to split the holidays
I don’t want two addresses
I don’t want a step-brother anyways
And I don’t want my mom to have to change her
last name

In our family portrait we look pretty happy
We look pretty normal, let’s go back to that
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
Let’s play pretend, act like it goes naturally

In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
We look pretty normal, let’s go back to that
(I promise I’ll be better, Mommy I’ll do
anything)
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
Let’s play pretend act and like it comes so
naturally
(I promise I’ll be better, Daddy please don’t
leave)
In our family portrait we look pretty happy
(Can we work it out? Can we be a family?)
We look pretty normal, let’s go back to that
(I promise I’ll be better, Daddy please don’t
leave)

Daddy don’t leave
Daddy don’t leave
Daddy don’t leave
Turn around please
Remember that the night you left you took my
shining star?
Daddy don’t leave
Daddy don’t leave
Daddy don’t leave
Don’t leave us here alone

Mom will be nicer
I’ll be so much better, I’ll tell my brother
Oh, I won’t spill the milk at dinner
I’ll be so much better, I’ll do everything right
I’ll be your little girl forever
I’ll go to sleep at night

What are some good poses for a casual family portrait?

June 182010

I’m going to take photo’s of my pregnant sister, her husband (they are both 20 years old) their 16 month old son (and maybe their very hyper dog). I’d like some posing ideas. They have a pond near their house, a big deck & some Fields. They want the photo’s to be casual. Any tips would be great!

I totally don’t agree with casual equals not posed. You pose them, but you don’t want them to LOOK like they’re posed. Just letting them do whatever and hoping they’ll all be in the frame at the same time and not picking their nose or something is next to impossible. Really, how many hours or days do you want to spend?

You could have them fishing together, something not so traditional, but you can pose people a little more traditionally yet make it be more casual. With one kid, and the optional dog, it shouldn’t be too hard. Dad should probably be holding the kid and maybe the dog. You could take one of them walking through the grass barefoot, the son holding each of his parents hands. They don’t have to all be looking at you all the time, but at least for some of the pictures. Mom and dad can be having a pretend conversation. Tell them to pretend to talk about something, then they can be looking at each other for some of the pictures and just looking at the boy in some of the pictures, and of course looking at you a little. The boy can look at you, the ground, mom or dad, it will all be cute. Try to get the triangle… boy looks at dad, dad looks at mom, mom looks at boy… Any combination will work. Keep your backgrounds simple and not messy… trees, fields fine. Try to keep the houses and mailboxes and garbage cans and cars far out of sight. It will be great. You’ll do fine. Definitely have some sort of idea… casual doesn’t mean free for all. It means less rules, not none. Good Luck!

Good Luck.

Can i get a grant for a family portrait studio in California?

June 162010

Are there any grants for women with a child who want to open a small buisness? Any assistance would be appreciated.

According to http://www.business.gov

Grants and Loan

Federal and state government agencies do not provide grants to women to help them start a business. Grants may be available from non-profits and private organizations, however, these are very rare and usually focus on helping minority women and women in economically disadvantaged communities. However, there are a limited number of loans available to specifically to help women start and expand their businesses.

The following programs are specifically for women entrepreneurs. Use the Loans and Grants Search Tool to get a full list of programs for which you might qualify.

Peter Gabriel – Peter Gabriel [3] – 05 – Family Snapshot

June 152010

Please add &fmt=18 to the end of the videos URL to hear the track in glorious stereo!

I’ve not heard any of Gabriels work outside of genesis (except “Sledgehammer”, of course) but this track (from wwww.progarchives.com) blew me away. The song was inspired by An Assassin’s Diary (published in 1973 and written by Arthur Bremer) the author of which attempted to assassinate George Wallace, a politician who supported racial segregation. SO, not JFK, like I assumed. Written by Peter Gabriel.

What is the best place to get a poster-size family portrait taken?

June 82010

Just as the question states. There’s three of us and we just need one pose taken and blown up to poster size for over-mantle hanging. Best/cheapest place. Thanks!
I’m in North Carolina.

I’m definitely not willing to spend $300 for a single pose blown up to poster-size that would be "good quality" in the eyes of fotoguy.

Let me rephrase for those taking photo-taking too seriously – I need the cheapest option with decent quality.

Where are you located?
