Disks to save photographs on – what are the best disks for me to buy to store photos from my PC on?

June 282010

I need good quality, reliable disks to save photographs on that I have transferred from my digital camera to my PC. There are so many disks available, but which are the best and where can I get them from? I made the mistake of buying cheap supermarket ones, but they often don’t work properly. Thanks.

I agree.
Get an external hard drive to store your pics, etc on.
They are not very expensive now. Approx for about £50 for about 80gb.
Maplin electronics, dabs, and 7dayshop, are worth a look.

Good luck.

What’s the best thing for sticking down photographs in a wedding album?

June 252010

I have some reprints of wedding photographs to put in a new album and was wondering if anyone knew what i can use to stick them to the backing sheets without damaging the photo. Bluetack tends to eventually leave a greasy mark on the corners of the photos so i didn’t really want to use that and double sided tape seems too permanent. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

My thing is longevity of photographs. What I usually do is, take my favorite pictures and have them blown up at Kinko’s or someplace similar. Then I have them placed in a 8-1/2 x 11 ‘hard pouch.’ If you choose a ’soft pouch,’ you would have wasted your time. You must ask for the hard pouch. Everyone doesn’t have the same common sense that you have. These pictures will be long lasting. I believe you will be happy with the results. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us, WHO can be against us? – Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the GOD of our salvation. Selah. – Psalm 68:19. I wish you well. Peace!!!

Is there software that can convert photographs to cartoons or caricatures?

June 212010

My daughter wants to create cartoon-like images from photographs. Then she wants to create stop-action animated films.
We already have good stop-action animation software, but she wants to convert the photographs to cartoon-like images before animating them.
Anyone know of reasonably priced software that can do this?

Well, a good software is the GIMP … it’s free, and comparable to photoshop. Just Google "The GIMP" & download.

What should I charge for taking photographs for a book?

June 182010

I have been asked to take 15 photographs for someone who is working on a book for overseas publication. We have already agreed they will pay my travel costs as well as developing, but I am unsure what to charge for my time and for the photographs themselves. Does anyone have a fair idea what to charge?

I am trained in photography (I do portrait work) and have all the equipment, but my photography work so far hasn’t included work for publication.

Are you holding on to copyrights? are these photos a one time use or do they want all the rights to them? This will effect the price as well. Selling your rights to photos doesn’t come cheap. You should talk to an agent or entertainment lawyer.

What are good clothes colours to wear for professional photographs?

June 162010

My Brother and I are having professional photographs done of us, as presents to our parents for christmas. We are debating with each other on what we should wear. We both have light/ medium olive skin so I was suggesting red or even white.

I’m also not sure whether I should wear a dress, a skirt and top or go casual in jeans but with a nice top. My brother is also having problems with what to wear so female and male opinions would be great.

Thank you!

Well you should wear a dress and your brother dress shirt and tie and dress pants. Red or Green(emerald) and your brother white shirt, blue pants, and red tie///////////

How can I make a list of all my video clips and photographs stored on my laptop?

June 82010

I am a school teacher and so the cameras are in constant use recording pupils and their work. The video clips and photographs are then stored on one laptop. Is there a way to collate the photograph and video file names into a list which I can update regularly?

I have a program called ACDSee 32, its a mainly a picture viewer program, its default settings are similar to when you open Windows Explorer to manage your files, only there’s a preview window that shows the image of the currently highlighted picture file. So you can look at pics without having to open an art program. Non-picture files like videos, PDFs, Word Files, etc. can still be seen on the list, and you can set up shell commands in the ACDSee program so that it will open the appropriate program (Windows Media Player, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, etc.) and the file, just like it would when using Windows Explorer.

The key thing is IT HAS THE FEATURE YOUR LOOKING FOR.

There is a command on its "Tools" menu tab called "Generate File Listing" that will create a list of the names for all the files and subfolders in the current active folder. It will automatically open a new window with Notepad (the basic accessory program that comes with Windows) and generate the list. It’s based on the columns selected in ACDSee for "Details" view, so it can also list the file size, image properties, etc. along with the name. The file can be saved in Notepad as the basic ".txt" file or you can highlight it all copy it to the clipboard (CTRL+C) and then paste it in more advanced word processing programs like Wordpad or Microsoft Word to alter fonts, edit appearances, and save as more complex file types. The cool thing is that you don’t have to type anything (except for the name of the new text file for the list =P …or if you wanted to tweak things) and all you have to do in order to update your list of files is go into the folder again the next time you use ACDSee and hit CTRL+G (that’s the short cut "hotkey") to generate a new list with all the new file names and data… *POOF!* an updated list.

There’s a slight drawback… the program is pretty old (about 6 years or so) and I don’t know if the current versions still have this ability. I now it will work on Windows XP Home Edition, but I don’t know if it will work on any of the newer versions of Windows. You could check out the free trial software here:

http://www.acdsee.com/

I haven’t checked out the trial program, because 1) I like the old version I have (I’m use to it) and 2) I got too much stuff on my computer to add another program.

You might be able to get a hold of a free copy of the same (old) ACDSee 32 that I have through another file sharing sight. I haven’t decided to enable email contact through Yahoo Answers, right now I just don’t like giving out my email. If the new trial version for ACDSee 9 doesn’t have the "Generate List" feature and you can’t get a copy of ACDSee 32 (or find a different program) after a month or so… drop a note for me on this question using the "Add Comments" option and (if your comfortable with it) put your email down. I’ll dig up the disk that has the program on it and see if I can make a working copy that will extract from a WinRAR file, then email it to you.
